Livelihoods Products
FEWS NET?s livelihoods framework is used to identify geographically relevant variables for monitoring systems and to interpret monitoring and field data. It provides analysts with a means to predict and judge the impact of a shock on household income and food access. Livelihoods products may be as simple as a livelihood zone map, provide a profile of the livelihood systems of different wealth groups within a zone, or may include in-depth baselines with quantified detail. The following is a list of the core livelihood products:
Livelihood Zone Map: A Livelihood Zone Map divides the country into homogenous zones within which people share broadly the same pattern of livelihood, including options for obtaining food and income and market opportunities. Read more
| Livelihood Zone Descriptions: Livelihood Zone Descriptions accompany Zone Maps. They briefly describe the main characteristics of livelihoods in each zone. On their own, livelihood zone maps and descriptions aid development of monitoring systems by identifying geographically relevant variables to monitor.

Livelihood Profiles: Livelihood Profiles provide a brief economic differentiation between groups (wealth groups) and information on the relative importance of different sources of food and income to each. This information provides a basis to begin understanding vulnerability to particular events - i.e., which stresses will impact which populations and how. Read more
Livelihood Baselines: Livelihood Baselines provide a detailed, quantified breakdown of household livelihood options (food, cash and expenditure patterns) and coping capacity/expandability for different wealth groups in the livelihood zone, highlighting market linkages, and constraints and opportunities for economic growth. They can be used to predict who will be impacted by which shocks, how, and to what degree. They can be linked to population information to estimate numbers of beneficiaries and assistance requirements. Read more
Livelihood Seasonal Monitoring Calendars: Seasonal Monitoring Calendars combine the seasonal calendars found in the profiles with the information on sources of food and income by wealth group to identify which variables are important to which wealth groups in each zone. This serves as a quick reference tool when developing a monitoring plan. Read more
Livelihood Attribute Maps: Attribute Maps combine the livelihoods information contained in the Zone Maps and Profiles to geo-reference where a crisis is likely to have the most significant effect and to provide context to important decision maker questions. Read more
Livelihood Discussion Papers: FEWS NET?s discussion papers offer a livelihoods-based analytical perspective on a variety of themes, including disaster risk reduction, chronic poverty and climate change.
